I tried this coffee on a recommendation from a friend and I am very pleasantly suprised.

It is smooth and aromatic, great flavor and nicely roasted. The grind is very fine so you don't need to use as much as other coffees. It comes in space saving bricks for easy storage and is vacuum sealed. I had mine around for a few weeks before opening and was fresh.

If you like good coffee, gotta give this a try.

This Gran Filtro is my favorite so far of the Lavazza coffees I have tried (Rosso, gold can, black can espressos). While the other three were made for espresso, I used them instead to make regular coffee in the Cuisinart coffee maker. They were all good, but seemed to lack a bit of... something, perhaps because they were meant to be extracted in an espresso machine rather than dripped through a coffeemaker. For those, I used seven tablespoons of coffee to one quart of water. I figured with these mini-bricks I would have to adjust the amount of water I used, but I didn't. One of these with a quart of water suits my taste perfectly. Since I choose not to grind my own beans, I love that each of these little 2.25-oz. vacuum packs is good for one pot, so the pre-ground coffee isn't getting stale overnight. I would like it if Amazon would offer the dark roast variety of Gran Filtro in the 2.25-oz. size, as well.

My husband is self-employed and has his own construction company -- coffee is a fundamental staple to his survival! We have been looking everywhere for pre-measured coffee that has a nice bold flavor -- the regular old Colombian you get in restaurants is OK, but he is a Kona / espresso fan, so we needed something with a little more "oomph." Hilton Hotels offers Lavazza Gran Filtro coffee pods for in-room coffee. Normally, in-room coffee is hit or miss (mostly miss), and I initially thought Lavazza would be the same, as I'd never heard of it until then. Boy, was I wrong! It isn't too strong, nor too acidic, and it tastes great without creamer or too much sugar (which I like lots of both in my coffee). I liked it so much that I decided to order these little bags.

Coffee in Italy always tastes different, even coffee made at home. I could never produce the richness here, could never get that golden foam around the cup and coffee bars here weren't much better. I find that one local coffee bar makes espresso with regular American large grind coffee. It just doesn't work. Perhaps water or the altitdude have an effect too. Who knows? My aunt, who owned a bar in Italy, recommends buying coffee that said it was produced for bars; usually labeled "gusto bar". It was for this reason that I went to the Lavazza Bar brand and have never turned back. I have tried many others, even in the Lavazza line and this, so far, is the best. I know there are others who have given it a bad review, but I ask how they made their coffee. Was it in a drip pot or in an espresso coffee pot? Did they experiment with using more or fewer grounds? It takes a bit before you get the knack. You can't make espresso and expect it to taste right, or expect it to taste like real espresso, unless you use it in the pot it was intended for no matter what the label may say. It's ground to a certain consistency for a reason. This coffee is ground for espresso machines and for Italian coffee pots that are used on the stove. Will Lavazza Bar taste like what I have in my cousin's home Italy? No, but it's pretty darn close.

This is the 3rd type of Lavazza coffee I have tried and have loved every one. They each have their own notable characteristic and this one is no exception. It is so creamy and round that it reminds me of black velvet. Yet, it has just the tinge of a bite to it to make it interesting and stand apart from the others. A definite winner for us. I always read reviews but never write one. The pleasure I had from drinking this coffee forced me to do so. It's the best of all Lavazza. It goes along with il Perfetto. Very deep and rich taste, especially if you make the grind finer. Good caffeine amount. If you are looking for low caffeine, try Pienaroma. Enjoy :)

I would rate the Gran Riserva below Lavazza's Tierra! and Super Crema for sure. It isn't as flavorful as the Crema e Aroma, but is less acidic. I like(d) it better than the Qualita Oro, which is priced outrageously. For the price, the Gran Riserva also offers less value than the Pienaroma. I don't remember the Gran Riserva's characteristics that well - so it wasn't memorable, I guess. :-) Nothing much wrong with it, either. My expectations must have been high because it's called "Gran Riserva".

If it was on sale, I would buy it. It's probably better than most other espresso beans; it is - after all - a Lavazza.
